While "AI automation" dominates headlines, the most effective enterprise AI deployments keep humans strategically involved. Human-in-the-loop is not about distrust of AI - it's about combining AI's speed and scale with human judgment, context, and accountability where they matter most.

The pattern appears across successful AI implementations: content generation systems where humans review and approve outputs before publication, customer service chatbots that hand off complex cases to human agents, or medical diagnosis tools that provide recommendations for doctors to validate rather than making automated decisions.

The business stakes are significant: HITL can be the difference between risk and trust. In regulated industries (finance, healthcare, government), human oversight isn't optional - it's required. But even in creative or operational domains, companies using HITL can unlock higher quality outcomes, reduce costly errors, and train better models over time. Each interaction where a human corrects an AI system becomes valuable feedback for continuous improvement.
